Mark 12:41-4441 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
I sometimes use the excuse of not having enough cash to not give (offerings, tithes, etc) and I know this is wrong... thank God for His grace because I've been sinning.
Based on the verse above, I believe God is telling you and me (all of us believers) to always give something out of our pockets no matter how little or much.
Give something in Church, to someone in need, etc even if it's one dollar, one pound, on naira, etc or even less, give a quarter. God loves a cheerful giver, so don't ever give with a heavy heart, that's anti-God behavior/living.
Also, don't make it a habit of giving tiny amounts except you have a little; God is not a piggy bank or donation box to give left overs, give Him your best and first fruits and He will give you His best fruit too (spiritual, physical, emotional blessings).
