This is the first of many movie reviews of unheard (and famous) feature films I think everyone can enjoy.
Love's Long Journey
First of all, I'm a sucker for love stories. I blame my mom and sisters ;). I thought this would be a chick-flick-y love-story; it isn't.
I didn't even think it'd have any biblical content but it did. I was pleasantly shocked and don't mind that I stayed up quite late to see it.
More details? Of course:
The Good
- The plot wasn't predictable. I haven't read the book this movie is based on, so I enjoyed every twist and turn.
- I don't know if it's because I slept through church today, but this movie is, for lack of better terms, powerful and full of God's presence; when they prayed in scenes in the movie, I couldn't help but close my eyes and say amen.
- So many good family values that I'd want my kids to learn. Love (in its truest and realest forms), kindness, forgiveness, repentance, acceptance, humility, etc.
- As someone who's falling more in love with the behind-the-scenes part of video production, I've been paying more attention to camera movements and the like; nothing in this movie was wack.
- It wasn't cheesy.
- IT WAS NOT CHEESY like some other Christian movies out there.
- It's the perfect length to convince someone (or some people to watch) without lots of time being lost. It's about 1 hour, 25 minutes. You could watch another movie after this easily.
- I think this could be a good movie to give to someone who's not convinced of following Christ. It's not uncomfortably Christian... I think.
- It is a Christmas movie... sort of.
The Bad
- The only negative thing I noticed was the lead actor's acting in the first few scenes of the movie; I could tell that he was acting. He steps his game up within the next 5 minutes though.
Other Comments
- It's a refreshingly calm and slow-paced movie (but not boring).
- There's pretty much nothing like this on TV anymore.
